The Plot Thickens - Cheating Scandal Hits Neverwinter!

May 1, 2026

Unbeknownst to the party, Iarno manages to successfully flee the burning tavern and reappers in the city holding the dragon egg…

Everyone is pretty concerned about this development, except for Sillidious who does not know the significance of the eggs yet. And no one really wants to explain, so he tries to figure things out himself, to not much success. Despite all this, the party seems to be in no rush to track Iarno and just decides to take a break and think things through. It is 2am after all, and they did not complete their long rests.

Thalia decides to drop the horse back home before the neighbor notices it’s missing. The rest of the party makes their way to a not actively burning tavern: local hot spot, Dew’s Stews, on the edge of the river towards the docks. Since it is the middle of the night, they have to make do with Dew’s leftovers, and they chow down on the goopy resemblance of a stew. It does the job though.

Kaimi tries to interrogate some people that are the tavern, but they don’t know anything more about the fire incident. She decides to just yap away her thought and theories to an exhausted Talon all night long. Sillidious decides on a more proactive approach and goes back to Bubbles and Bath, investigating the scene of the fire. This endeavour turns out to be useful, because he finds a peculiar arrowhead with a distinctive symbol and he collects a sample of blood from the tavern’s roof where much of the fight took place.

Upon closer inspection, the arrow symbol is a glyph in Thieve’s Language, used by criminals to advertise their killing services. Peculiar…

After trying to salvage as much sleep as they can, the party reunites in the morning at Dew’s Stews. With a promising lead, Thalia casts her Find Familiar spell and transforms their trusty bat companion Ronald into a bloodhound. Letting him sniff the blood, he leads them to an upscale inn on the noble side of town. Their entrance to the inn is barred by a bodyguard, so they’ll have to get creative. Sillidious attempts to distract the bouncer with his religious fanaticism about Izana, while the two redheads of the group put their atheticism to the test. They jump up the walls through an open side window.

The room they find themselves in is very fancy and plush, indicating whoever stayed here is quite rich. They investigate the room and find an important clue, a half burned letter in the fireplace, talking about a ball and leaving post-haste. In the middle of the room there is a magical ritual sign that Lachlan and Kaimi have seen Thalia do before. So the occupant of this room is definitely a wizard. They also find pieces of cloth that were used as bandages. Definitely points to a certain someone being the occupant of this room. Lachlan checks the bags left in the room, finding fancy clothes inside, together with a distinctive hat. The hat has the emblem of one of the noble houses of Millramith, a city on the other side of the continent. They also find a sink in the room with a used shaving kit. This is weird, because Iarno has a iconic long beard so that couldn’t possibly belong to him. Finally, when trying to leave the room, they discover the door is locked.

Concerned with her companion’s prolonged absence, Thalia quickly puts together a plan. She strolls inside the inn with the confidence of a devastated but determined wife. Her wizardy robes make her look put-together enough that the bouncer doesn’t stop her. Inside, she find the receptionist and starts telling him her plea for help. While cleaning up the house, she found a note in her husband’s clothes relating to a mysterious meeting at the inn. She immediately suspected he is having an affair with another woman at the inn, so she battled her pain and came to learn more. After a very successful Performance check, her desperation is palpable and the old receptionist man cannot help but assit. He doesn’t want a cheating scandal disturb the other noble guests. Thalia gives him Iarno’s description and she gets taken to his room. As coincidence would have it, that is exactly the room Lachlan and Kaimi are hiding in. Thalia makes a bigger deal out of it, insinuating a possible orgy. The embarrased receptionist leaves them alone to sort it out and instructs them to use the back door. From this whole ordeal, they learned for sure that this was Iarno’s room, that he shared with another man. After taking everything that could be useful, the redheads escape back out the window.

On Thalia ’s way out, she gets approached by a noble looking woman. She heard of the cheating scandal and was excited about the gossip potential. She lets slip that the second man is a messenger of house Kastuen from Millramith. Thalia sets up a date with her to find out more.

Outside, Sillidious causes more ruckus with the inn bodyguard, threatening to explosive pee all over the place. Thankfully, the party reunites and reigns him in before it gets ugly…

Later in the evening, Thalia and Kaimi meet up with the nice woman and her friends at the Frozen Vineyard, a fancy winehouse in the noble quarters. Sillidious wants to also join posing as Thalia ’s servant and bodyguard.

From the conversation with the nice women, they find out:

  • Iarno might have went to the volcano, Mount Hotenaw
  • The messenger arrived by boat, he is a young man, clean-shaven, and he allegedly left 2 days ago, before the fire incident
  • A ball is organized in Millramith every Crescent, where the highnobility can talk to the Member of the Council

The information is indeed valuable and gives the party a big lead in their investigation. They also find out a bit more about Mount Hotenaw. It is next to a monastery ( Lachlan ’s monastery to be precise), and Lachlan has a traumatic past with them since he fleed.

The party reunites and (despite Lachlan ’s protests) they decide the best course of action is to take a trip up to the volcano. The working theory is that Iarno is trying to hatch the dragon egg. That would not be great…
